The Anchorage Scottish Pipe Band is the state’s oldest pipe band, formed in 1963. Over four decades, the band has performed for mayors, governors, Pope John Paul II and various charitable organizations. In 2005 the band was invited to perform “Amazing Grace” at the memorial service for renowned former Alaska Gov. Jay Hammond.

The band’s tartan comes from its predecessor, the old McKinley Highlanders, under the command of Pipe Major, Frank Carroll.

Travels have taken the band to such far-flung destinations as Auckland, New Zealand; Hawaii; Whitehorse, YT; and Shemya (yes, Shemya).

As a 501c(3) non-profit organization, ASPB performs to raise contributions and welcomes your gifts to pay for uniforms, instruments and travel expenses. All band members are volunteers who come together to make highland music, learn from each other and have fun.

Check our performance schedule for a list of local fundraising activities where you can contribute in person and enjoy some spirited highland piping and drumming!
